small or not so small victories

I had a review appointment with my  (private) endocrinologist this week, all much of a muchness (looked at blood numbers, hormone dosage, blood pressure typical  review appointment  topics... however one topic, in that list is missing :- my weight ...

Discussion of body weight is fraught topic in both ballet and trans  communities ...

In the past  year I have lost just under 15kg in body mass ,  last June I was 107.4 kg , this morning I was 92.8 kg , which puts my BMI just over  30 ...

BMI  - Body mass index  - is a measure whose utility has been questioned fairly extensively  but  various  health organisations love it  because it's quick and cheap to calculate -  how useful it actually is in terms of fitness for anaesthetic or surgery is a different matter; but BMI cut offs are used for  referrals  for surgery and for approval for surgery to be listed.

Body weight/nutrition/endocrine stuff is also an issue in dance - although generally  more at the pre-professional and professional end of things and the phenomena know as RED-S. But as I said in Ballet is a cruel mistress... dancers  can be their own worst enemies when it comes to body image etc...
